Recycling
It's Second Nature. And - It's At Your Disposal Now!
Recycle With Us
Our recycling program is easy and convenient. We want to encourage everyone to make recycling part of their daily routine!
The city issues one 96-gallon blue Rollout Cart to each qualifying residence, for recyclable materials only. Contact the call center at 910-433-1FAY(1329) to find out if you qualify.
Recycling is collected every other week, on an A week/B week schedule. To find your collection day, enter your address in our generator found at the top of our page.
All recyclables must be placed in the blue rollout cart only and can be mixed in that cart (ex. glass items set in with cardboard and water bottles). Items are separated at a local Materials Recovery Facility (MRF), so you don't have to separate them yourself.
Please do not place any recyclable materials inside a bag. If items are placed in bags, those items will be sent to the landfill and that is something we want to avoid.
Recycling keeps materials that can have a "second life" out of our landfills, so they don't overflow. It also preserves resources, keeps our environment safe and clean, as well as conserves fuel used to make new materials.
Every-Other-Week Recycling Schedule
On Aug. 1, 2021, the City of Fayetteville moved to a bi-weekly recycling collection schedule.

Why We Recycle
It makes sense in so many ways!
Recycling saves resources used to make new materials.
- It takes about 24 trees to produce one ton of non-recycled office paper.
- Producing a ton of steel from recycled materials saves 2,500-pounds of iron ore, 1,400-pounds of coal and 120-pounds of limestone.
Recycling saves energy.
- 30% less energy for recycled glass
- 60% less energy for recycled paper
- 66% less energy for recycled plastic
- 95% less energy for recycled aluminum cans
Recycling significantly reduces air and water pollution.
- Producing paper from trees requires more water than any other industrial process in the U.S, and dumps billions of gallons of wastewater into our waterways each year.
- Producing one ton of recycled steel creates 86% less air pollution.
- Recycling also reduces the need for landfills and incinerators, which create pollutants that contaminate the air and groundwater.
Recycling is good for the economy.
- It enables valuable raw materials, resources, and energy to be used more wisely.
- Projections show that a 20% increase in recycling would create up to 500 new jobs in North Carolina.
How We Recycle
It’s easy! All acceptable recyclable items may be placed together, in the blue rollout cart. Set the blue rollout cart at the curb, by 6 a.m., on your collection day.
Multi-family Recycling
All multi-family complexes of more than seven units on a single parcel are required to provide recycling for residents, according to an ordinance approved by City Council in 2011. Complex owners and/or managers are to contract with a commercial recycling hauler for weekly pickup and provide an area for blue rollout cart placement. Property owners and/or managers also provide a bi-annual report to the City’s Solid Waste Division advising of the amount of recyclables collected.
The State of North Carolina prohibits the disposal of plastic bottles, aluminum cans and other recyclable items in landfills.
Thanks for recycling. It's good for all of us!
