The next Fayetteville Citizens Academy class is being held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, starting in the Grove Street Conference Room, located at 455 Grove St. The conference room is located in the City Services building, adjacent to the Valero gas station and across from Talecris Plasma Services. Class begins at 9 a.m. and features the Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST), Fayetteville Regional Airport and the Traffic and Street and Stormwater Maintenance divisions.

Applicants must be City of Fayetteville residents, or work in Fayetteville city limits, and the class size is limited to 25 residents. This session will conclude at or before 5 p.m. To apply, log onto, scroll to the bottom of the page and download the application, fill out the application and email it to Nathan Walls at The application window closes Thursday, Dec. 6 and applicants will be notified of their acceptance by close of business on Friday, Dec. 7.

Residents will interact with department directors and staff of each department and engage in hands-on learning activities that familiarizes them with the functions of the departments.

“The Citizens Academy gives residents an opportunity to see City of Fayetteville employees at work, up close and personal,” said Corporate Communications Director Kevin V. Arata. “Residents can see exactly how City employees provide our residents with a high level of service every day.”

Lunch will be provided and residents are asked to dress appropriately for the weather in business casual attire. There will be walking involved and residents will be asked to climb stairs, as well. Students will also be filmed by Corporate Communications staff, who will air footage of the class on FayTV and City social media webpages.

As a reminder, this Citizens Academy class is a one-day session that allows for more residents to attend the quarterly sessions. This new format differs from the previous seven-week nightly Citizens Academy held in years past where residents attended all sessions.
