Heat Causing Solid Waste and Yard Waste Pickup Delays

Heat has significantly impacted the readiness of our solid waste and yard waste trucks. As a result, we haven’t had enough available trucks to maintain solid waste and yard waste pickup schedules. Equipment issues with these trucks in such hot and humid conditions as we’ve experienced over the last few weeks are not uncommon. We apologize to residents for the inconvenience. Our first priority is to pick up solid waste (green carts). Our staff is currently working on its off days of Wednesdays and Saturdays to catch up on missed routes. Our second priority is yard waste (brown carts) and it may not be collected this week. At this time, it is recommended to leave solid waste out for pickup and it will be collected as soon as possible. We hope to be back on schedule next week and will keep residents informed on our progress.

Commitment, Sacrifice, Courage, Honor, Dedication, Service, Heroism . . . powerful words that may especially touch our hearts in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence, which has devastated much of our area. These are also the touchstone words on the public art walls of the North Carolina Veterans Park in downtown Fayetteville.

The Arts Council is proud to present Touchstone: Images of Service. The exhibit presents a selection of images that showcase the various ways a handful of North Carolina photographers interprest those words through shots of everyday life or any professions. The exhibit coincides with the North Carolina Digital Heritage Center's online exhibition of the contributions and stories of 100 veterans and 400 community supporters statewide, whose hands served as models for the Wall of Oath and community columns in the North Carolina Veterans Park.

The exhibition will run through January 12, 2019.

Gallery Hours: Monday - Thursday 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Friday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.; Saturday 12:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
