Update to Shooting Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department have identified the suspect in the shooting that occurred at apartment building 832 Lake Pine Drive.

 

The suspect in this investigation has been identified as Brian Michael Cavalier Jr. 22 years old of apartment building 832 Lake Pine Dr. Fayetteville, NC.

 

Mr. Cavalier was charged by detectives with the following:

 

  • 1 count Discharging a Barreled Weapon into Occupied Property
  • 1 count Discharging a Barreled Weapon into Occupied Property Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

 

Mr. Cavalier was processed into the Cumberland County Jail after he received a $100,000 dollar secured bond.

 

Detectives report that Mr. Cavalier and a Mr. Max Michael were inside Cavalier’s apartment in building 832 Lake Pine Drive. Both subjects were handling a .45 caliber Ruger handgun when Cavalier discharged the weapon into a wall which adjoins the apartment next door. The bullet pierced the wall and entered the next door dwelling striking a 3 year old male child in the shoulder causing serious injury. After being transported to the hospital by ambulance. The child was last reported being in stable condition having non-lifethreatening injuries at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.

 

Both subjects are reported to be U.S. Army soldiers. Mr. Michael was released without charge.

Shooting Investigation

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – On the late afternoon of the March 9, 2018, Fayetteville Police Officers were dispatched to apartment building 832 on Lake Pine Drive in reference to a shooting.

 

Officers arrived on scene and the preliminary investigation revealed two male subjects in an apartment building had negligently discharged a firearm inside their apartment. The bullet went through a dividing wall into an adjacent apartment and struck a 3 year old child. The child was transported to the Cape Fear Valley Medical Center by ambulance. The child’s injuries are reported to be non-lifethreatening.

 

The two male subjects are being questioned by detectives at this time.

 

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department are actively investigating the shooting and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
