Suspect Arrested in Series of Cold Case Rapes

 

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit have charged and arrested a suspect in connection with six (6) cold case rape investigations that occurred between March 2006 and January 2008 along the Ramsey Street corridor.

 

Between March 2006 and January 2008 the Fayetteville Police Department investigated a series of six (6) rapes which occurred in the North Fayetteville/Ramsey Street area.  These rapes were committed by a suspect who was dubbed the “Ramsey Street Rapist”, and has now been identified as Darold Wayne Bowden (W/M, 43 years of age), of the 500 block of Palestine Road, Linden, NC.

 

Darold Bowden has been charged in connection with six rape investigations:

  • March 31, 2006 – Village at Carvers Falls Apartments
  • August 23, 2006 – 4400 block of Ramsey Street
  • February 12, 2007 – Apartments on Bubble Creek Court
  • March 6, 2007 – Village at Carvers Falls Apartments
  • September 18, 2007 – Heather Ridge Apartments
  • January 26, 2008 – Apartments on Bubble Creek Court

 

Bowden has been arrested and charged with 1st Degree Forcible Rape (3 counts), 1st Degree Forcible Sex Offense (3 counts), 2nd Degree Forcible Rape (4 counts), 2nd Degree Forcible Sex Offense (13 counts), 1st Degree Statutory Rape, Indecent Liberties with a Child, 1st Degree Kidnapping (6 counts), 1st Degree Burglary (5 counts), Felony Larceny (2 counts), Felony Possession of Stolen Goods (2 counts).

Bowden was arrested at his residence by Fayetteville Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team along with the assistance of the United States Marshal Service Violent Fugitive Task Force and taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he remains on an $18,800,000 secured bond.

 

Bowden was identified using Parabon Nanolabs’ Snapshot Genetic Genealogy testing.  This is the same type of testing used to identify the Golden State Killer.  More information about this testing can be found at: https://snapshot.parabon-nanolabs.com/

(Fayetteville, NC) – The Fayetteville Police Department will be announcing a significant development regarding a series of rapes that occurred along the Ramsey Street corridor between March 2006 and January 2008.

 

Between March 2006 and January 2008 the Fayetteville Police Department investigated a series of six (6) rapes that occurred in the North Fayetteville/Ramsey Street area. These rapes were committed by a suspect who was dubbed the “Ramsey Street Rapist.”

 

On Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 11:15 am the Fayetteville Police Department will be making an announcement regarding a significant development in these cases and all media outlets are invited to attend.

 

Media attending should assembly in the lobby of the Fayetteville Police Department, located at 467 Hay Street by 11:00 am. Media will be escorted to the area of the press conference at that time.
