Citizens Academy Public Safety Day Being Held on Feb. 26

Post Date:02/08/2019 12:08 PM
policefireThe next Fayetteville Citizens Academy class is being held on Tuesday, Feb. 26, starting in the Police Department Headquarters, located at 467 Hay St, which is adjacent to City Hall and across from the Prince Charles Hotel. Class begins at 8:15 a.m. and features the Fayetteville Police and Fire departments. The class is being held just in time for citizens to get their last chance to meet retiring Fire Chief Ben Major.

Applicants must be City of Fayetteville residents, or work in Fayetteville city limits, and the class size is limited to 25 residents. This session will conclude at or before 5 p.m. To apply, log onto www.fayettevillenc.gov/citizensacademy, scroll to the bottom of the page and download the application, fill out the application and email it to Nathan Walls at nwalls@ci.fay.nc.us. The application window closes Thursday, Feb. 21 and applicants will be notified of their acceptance by close of business on Friday, Feb. 22.

Residents will interact with chiefs of both departments, their staff and engage in hands-on learning activities that familiarize them with the functions of the departments.

“The Citizens Academy gives residents an opportunity to see City of Fayetteville employees at work, up close and personal,” said Corporate Communications Director Kevin V. Arata. “Residents can see exactly how City employees provide our residents with a high level of service every day.”

Lunch will be provided and residents are asked to dress appropriately for the weather in business casual attire and in closed-toe shoes. There will be some walking involved. Students will also be filmed by Corporate Communications staff, who will air footage of the class on FayTV and City social media webpages.

As a reminder, this Citizens Academy class is a one-day session that allows for more residents to attend the quarterly sessions. This format differs from the previous seven-week nightly Citizens Academy held in years past where residents attended all sessions.
