City Budget Document Awarded by GFOA for Fourth Straight Year
(Fayetteville, N.C.) — The City of Fayetteville has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). This is the fourth straight year that the City’s budget document has been honored by GFOA. The award, presented for the current fiscal year budget document, is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting.
In order to receive the budget award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an organization’s budget serves as: A policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.
The GFOA also presented a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation to the staff of the Office of Budget and Evaluation for leading the City’s efforts to achieve the award.
“The City’s budget document is the culmination of an extensive budget process, encompassing months of planning by staff throughout all areas and levels of our organization. The staff of the Budget Office is to be commended for composing a document that, first and foremost, effectively communicates the annual financial and operational plan to City Council for their consideration, and that also meets the arduous standards of the GFOA,” City Manager Doug Hewett said. “This recognition is well-deserved and indicative of the professionalism of City staff.”
The Government Finance Officers Association is a major professional association servicing the needs of more than 19,000 appointed and elected local, state and provincial-level government officials and other finance practitioners.
