Update to Cape Fear Valley Hospital Lockdown
(Fayetteville, NC) – Security sweeps have been concluded of Cape Fear Valley Hospital and surrounding area. The subject described by the caller has not been located, and the validity of the call is still under investigation.
Cape Fear Valley has made the decision to remain in lockdown status. For questions regarding their status, please contact their PIO.
Other area hospitals have been notified of the situation.

Cape Fear Valley Hospital on Lockdown
(Fayetteville, NC) – On December 29, 2019, the Cumberland County EOC received a call from a third party caller regarding a suicidal subject threatening himself and first responders near exit 48 off of I-95. At 7:28 pm, the third party caller advised the subject was now outside of the Cape Fear Valley Hospital at 1638 Owen Drive in Fayetteville, and was making threats to harm staff members.
Fayetteville police officers arrived and began the search for the subject. As of the time of this press release, there has been no contact with the subject by security or law enforcement. An investigation has begun to confirm the validity of the call. As a precaution, the hospital has been placed on lockdown. All emergency operations are continuing, and ambulance transports are still being accepted.
The Fayetteville Police Department is asking for people to avoid the area until the final search is completed.
