Corporate Communications

All media and public record requests and requests for interviews are to go through the Corporate Communications Office by calling Nathan Walls at (910) 433-1710, emailing, or writing to 433 Hay Street Fayetteville, NC 28301, attention Corporate Communications. The office responds to requests for information Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and after hours in cases of emergency. In order to ensure the most timely and accurate response possible, media is to contact the Corporate Communications office with all requests.

The mission of the City of Fayetteville's Corporate Communications Department is to inform and engage citizens, strengthen and expand the City's reputation and foster community pride and cooperation. Our vision is to be a transparent provider of timely and accurate information to the public.

About Corporate Communications

The Corporate Communications Department of the City of Fayetteville is the public relations arm of the organization. The staff of Corporate Communications facilitates public records requests, media releases, social media communications, advertising, public service announcements, marketing plans, City publications, and timely information dissemination to the citizens of Fayetteville. Corporate Communications broadcasts City Council meetings, plans events, helps with community outreach, and conducts the Citizens' Academy. The team has won numerous awards for its publications and marketing and communications plans. Corporate Communications, as part of the Administration portfolio, reports directly to and takes direction from the City Manager.

The City's Corporate Communications Office is the public's liaison for public record requests and as such, all requests for information from the City should be sent to the Corporate Communications Office. Corporate Communications is also the media's resource for information and, in order to ensure the most timely and accurate response possible, should be contacted for all requests (including official statements, interviews, documents, etc.).


Communications includes both internal and external communications. Internal Communications provides services to City departments that aid them in their communications with employees and their media relations. The program will inform staff about key strategic messages, work to boost employee morale and keep employees connected to the organization. External Communications provides brand and reputation management, citizen engagement and public outreach and marketing and public relations services through various Corporate Communications functions, including, but not limited to monitoring media outlets, FayTV, branding, graphic design, social media, marketing plans, media relations, crisis communications, sponsorships and citizen engagement tools.

Kevin V. Arata, Corporate Communications Director


Kevin is the Corporate Communications Director for the City of Fayetteville, where he has worked since April 2015.  He retired from the Army after 29 years of service, just prior to coming to work for the City, with his most recent assignment at Fort Bragg as the Director of Public Affairs for XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Bragg. He is originally from Hyde Park, New York and has lived in North Carolina since 2010 when he was first stationed at Fort Bragg. He now resides in Fayetteville with his wife.

Kevin’s background is in Public Affairs, the field in which he worked for the last 15 years of his Army career, while the earlier period of his Army time was spent serving as an Infantry officer. He has also been stationed in Louisiana, Kentucky, Georgia, New York, Kansas, Germany, and Virginia, and has served two tours in Afghanistan and one tour in Iraq. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy and his Master of Arts in Speech Communication from the University of Georgia.
