Heat Causing Solid Waste and Yard Waste Pickup Delays

Heat has significantly impacted the readiness of our solid waste and yard waste trucks. As a result, we haven’t had enough available trucks to maintain solid waste and yard waste pickup schedules. Equipment issues with these trucks in such hot and humid conditions as we’ve experienced over the last few weeks are not uncommon. We apologize to residents for the inconvenience. Our first priority is to pick up solid waste (green carts). Our staff is currently working on its off days of Wednesdays and Saturdays to catch up on missed routes. Our second priority is yard waste (brown carts) and it may not be collected this week. At this time, it is recommended to leave solid waste out for pickup and it will be collected as soon as possible. We hope to be back on schedule next week and will keep residents informed on our progress.

James (Jim) William Arp, Jr., a Fayetteville native, was appointed as the District 9 Fayetteville City Council representative at the December 13, 2010 City Council meeting. He has since been elected in 2011, when he also served as Mayor Pro Tem, and reelected in 2013, 2015, and 2017.

As a former member of the City of Fayetteville Zoning and Planning commissions, Mr. Arp has extensive knowledge of local government interagency policy development, strategic planning and business development that complement the Council’s efforts in making Fayetteville a truly “livable city.”

A 20-year Army veteran, during which he was assigned to three tours of duty at Fort Bragg, Arp is currently the Vice President of Business Development for Operations Services Inc., a defense contractor in Fayetteville. He has 30 years of experience in the leadership, management and supervision of personnel in the highly skilled fields of national security, business, aviation, maintenance and logistics. 
 
According to Arp, it is his desire to serve with a leadership team that is highly motivated and committed to moving Fayetteville to the next level, thereby providing its citizens with responsible and effective government.
