Fayetteville-Cumberland Recreation Centers will open to the public at its abbreviated start time of 10 a.m. after assessing facilities and grounds for damage. FCPR administration plans to operate a normal schedule today with Parks Division continuing to assist with storm clean up as needed.

The shelters will begin closing procedures after breakfast as the inclement weather has passed. The County will demobilize personnel and equipment as it deactivates the Emergency Operations Center today. The Hurricane Information Line is no longer operating.

Cumberland County opened two emergency shelters today at 8 a.m. for residents affected by the potential impacts of Hurricane Dorian. The shelters are located at Smith Recreation Center, 1520 Slater Ave., Fayetteville, and South View High School, 4184 Elk Road, Hope Mills.

The Fayetteville Woodpeckers have capped their inaugural regular season in sterling fashion by qualifying for the Carolina League playoffs. They begin the first round of the playoffs against the Down East Wood Ducks on Sept. 4th and 5th in Fayetteville. Both games start at 6pm.

It is still too early to tell what direct impacts Hurricane Dorian will have on Fayetteville and the surrounding region, but we encourage residents to be vigilant and take the necessary precautions for hurricane preparedness, as we are in the active part of hurricane season.
