Shelia Thomas-Ambat, Public Services Director
Biography
Sheila is the Public Services Director for the City of Fayetteville, where she has worked since January 2018. Sheila has over 26 years of engineering experience, both in the private and public sector. Over the past 20-plus years, she has built an exemplary record of performance overseeing public works projects, and in particular engaging in long-term strategic planning and resource oversight for water resources and capital improvement projects. Prior to joining the City, Sheila worked for the City of Raleigh, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality and TRC Environmental Corporation. She is a licensed professional engineer, certified construction manager, certified stormwater manager and a certified floodplain manager.
Sheila is married to Michael Jakubiak, who serves with the Joint Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg. They have one son and two daughters. Sheila has a Master’s Degree in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn. She has also completed all but her thesis in post graduate work for a Master’s Degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
