Heat Causing Solid Waste and Yard Waste Pickup Delays

Heat has significantly impacted the readiness of our solid waste and yard waste trucks. As a result, we haven’t had enough available trucks to maintain solid waste and yard waste pickup schedules. Equipment issues with these trucks in such hot and humid conditions as we’ve experienced over the last few weeks are not uncommon. We apologize to residents for the inconvenience. Our first priority is to pick up solid waste (green carts). Our staff is currently working on its off days of Wednesdays and Saturdays to catch up on missed routes. Our second priority is yard waste (brown carts) and it may not be collected this week. At this time, it is recommended to leave solid waste out for pickup and it will be collected as soon as possible. We hope to be back on schedule next week and will keep residents informed on our progress.

Yadkin Drainage Improvements

Project Overview:

The intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Carson Drive has been identified as a priority as it experiences frequent and severe flooding issues, including severe street, yard and crawl space flooding. Other properties and locations along Yadkin Road are also affected by flooding issues. Additionally the City determined that the existing drainage infrastructure behind the properties bordering Yadkin Road between Cimarron Drive and Santa Fe Drive is also contributing to flooding issues.  A detailed investigation determined the existing drainage infrastructure is not sufficient to handle the storm flows from the watershed.  The project has been divided into two phases to expedite its construction.

Phase I - Involved a culvert replacement on Glen Canyon Drive. This portion of the project was completed in 2015.

Phase II - The City will complete pipe system improvements and culvert replacements from the outfall at Cimarron Drive and Yadkin Road along the back edges of properties on Yadkin Road to the beginning of the system near the intersection of Santa Fe Drive and Carson Drive.
