Martin Luther King Day Holiday Schedule

The City of Fayetteville’s government administrative offices, including FAST offices, are closed on Monday, Jan. 21, 2019 in recognition of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  FAST will run regular service. Garbage and yard waste for Monday, Jan. 21 will be collected on Wednesday, Jan. 23. Recycling will be collected on regular schedule on Monday, Jan. 21. If any collection service is missed, residents should leave their carts at the curb and, if needed, call 910-433-1FAY (1329). Dr. Whitfield has been with the City of Fayetteville since  September 2017, when he was hired as an Assistant City Manager. He brings two decades of municipal leadership from Maryland and Virginia to the City and oversees the Budget & Evaluation, Information Technology, Human Resource Development, and Finance departments as well as the Strategic Performance Analytics and City Clerk’s offices. 

Previously, Dr. Whitfield served as Assistant to the City Manager in Newport News, Va. for close to four years. Prior to his tenure in Newport News, Whitfield served in human services system management for Fairfax County, Va. and with the City of Rockville, Md. He started his local government experience with his hometown, the City of Virginia Beach. 

Whitfield holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration and Public Affairs from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in addition to his education at Hampton (VA) University  and The American University in Washington, DC.
