Update to Shooting Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have identified the victim and made an arrest in connection with the shooting that occurred along the 5700 block of Weatherford Road on February 6, 2022.

The victim has been identified as Trenton Douglas (B/M, 48 years of age) of the 6400 block of Milford Drive. Douglas’ next of kin has been notified.

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit have charged and arrested a suspect in connection with the homicide. Gary Duncan (B/M, 52 years of age) of the 5700 block of Weatherford Road was charged with First Degree Murder. Duncan remains in the Cumberland County Detention Center under no bond.

The preliminary investigation revealed a disturbance took place inside of the residence prior to the shooting. The victim and suspect knew each other at the time of the shooting. Detectives are requesting anyone in the area with security camera footage that may have captured the shooting to please notify the Fayetteville Police Department.

Shooting – Death Investigation

(Fayetteville, NC) – On February 6, 2022, at 12:56 am, officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to a reported shooting along the 5700 block of Weatherford Road.

Officers and medical personnel arrived on the scene and located one male in the roadway who had been shot. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting are under investigation by members of the Fayetteville Police Department’s Homicide Unit.
