In response to an increase in violent crime within the City of Fayetteville, the Fayetteville Police Department has been designated as the lead agency for design, implementation, and evaluation of a ShotSpotter pilot program.

Studies show that more than 80% of gunfire incidents go unreported to 911. ShotSpotter is a proven tool that saves lives and helps law enforcement reduce violent crime in cities nationwide with a fast, precise police response to gunfire.

How accurate is ShotSpotter?

Per the ShotSpotter website, the system is highly accurate at detecting outdoor gunshots. In 2019 the system had a 97% aggregate accuracy rate across all of ShotsSpotter customers including a very small false positive rate of less than 0.5% of all reported gunfire incidents.
