Update to Traffic Fatality-Correction
(Fayetteville, NC) – On October 19, 2023 the Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit charged Nathan Thomas Kellon II (Black male, 39 years old) of Fayetteville was charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle, Careless and Reckless, Speeding, and Red Light Violation for the traffic fatality that occurred on October 3, 2023 at the intersection of Cliffdale Road at Rim Road.
Traffic Fatality
(Fayetteville, NC) – The Fayetteville Police Department’s Traffic Unit investigated a vehicle crash that occurred on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at the intersection of Cliffdale Road at Rim Road that resulted in a fatality.
On October 3, 2023 at approximately 7:09 p.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the intersection of Cliffdale Road at Rim Road to reports of a vehicle crash.
The Preliminary investigation revealed a black 2018 Acura being driven by Janeen Smith (Black female, 39 years old) of Fayetteville, NC and occupied by two juveniles was traveling north on Rim Road through a greenlight.
A 2015 red Jeep Cherokee being driven by Nathan Thomas Kellon II (Black male, 38 years old) of Fayetteville, NC ran the red light and collided with Ms. Smith’s vehicle. The impact pushed Ms. Smith’s vehicle approximately 100 feet from within the intersection.
Ms. Smith was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. Her family has been notified.
The two juveniles within Ms. Smith’s vehicle were transported to a local hospital and are stable.
The driver of the Jeep, Mr. Kellon II was transported to a local hospital and is in serious condition.
