Detectives Seek Public’s Assistance Identifying Suspects Who Passed Counterfeit Currency
(Fayetteville, NC) – Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Fraud Unit are seeking the public’s assistance identifying two individuals responsible for passing counterfeit currency at a local business on June 17, 2017.
During the evening of June 17, 2017 the suspects were inside Paddy’s Irish Public House, located at 2606 Raeford Road, and passed counterfeit one-hundred dollar bills to the business.
Businesses and consumers are encouraged to utilize various detection methods when receiving currency, such as:
- Look at the serial numbers. If you receive several bills at the same time make sure the serial numbers are not the same.
- Use a pen that detects counterfeit money, but do not rely solely on this detection method. The pens are not 100% accurate.
- Check for the correct security strip located within the currency.
- Check for watermarks located on the currency.
- Visit http://www.uscurrency.gov for a complete list of United States Currency security features and familiarize yourself with those features.
Anyone with information regarding counterfeit currency, or the identities of the suspects, is asked to contact Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Fraud Unit at (910) 433-1856, or Fayetteville / Cumberland County Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477). Crimestoppers information can also be submitted electronically by visiting http://fay-nccrimestoppers.org and completing the anonymous online tip sheet, or by downloading the FREE “P3 Tips” app available for Apple devices in the Apple App Store and available for Android devices in Google Play.
