OEM_logo_version2 Among the City of Fayetteville's responsibilities to its citizens is to mitigate or minimize the effects of a man-made or natural disaster that may occur within the city limits. In order to accomplish this task, the City of Fayetteville has established an Emergency Management Division within the Fire Department. This division works to identify and analyze the hazards that may impact the local community.

This information is used to develop plans and procedures for preparedness, response to, and recovery from disasters. These plans are tested and coordinated with County, State, and Federal partner agencies with the goals of saving lives and reducing property damage.

Personal Preparedness

The most important thing citizens can do is to prepare themselves and their families to withstand the effects of disasters. First, you should have a plan. This plan should include items such as where to meet, how to contact family members, and how to let someone know you are safe. Next, you should have a supply kit, which includes basic items such as cash, food, water, flashlight, radio, batteries, prescription drugs, etc., that will be sufficient for a minimum of three days. Public Shelters

There are many incidents that may require you to evacuate your home or business. In the event shelters must be opened, Cumberland County Emergency Services will advise the location via local news sources and notification systems. These shelters are managed and operated by the local Chapter of the American Red Cross, Cumberland County Public Health and Cumberland County Social Services. Pet owners will have to check with Cumberland County Emergency Services to find out which shelters will accept pets.

Older Citizens and Those With Disabilities

Many of our citizens face additional challenges during disasters due to age or disabilities. Do you have a neighbor or loved one who needs additional assistance or has special medical needs? If so, please make it a part of your emergency plan to check on those individuals. This will allow for us to make plans on how we can help them during disaster situations

Business

The same basic principles for personal preparedness planning can also be applied to business. All businesses should have a plan for how they will operate during disaster situations. These plans should include how to notify your workers on the status of the business. You should also have a plan to protect valuable information and equipment.
