Shawcroft LOMAR Notice
The Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) for a community depicts the floodplain, the area that has been determined to be subject to a 1-percent or greater chance of flooding in any given year. The regulatory floodway is the portion of the floodplain that includes the channel of a river or other watercourse and the adjacent land area that must be reserved in order to discharge the base (1-percent-annual-chance) flood without cumulatively increasing the water-surface elevation by more than a designated height. The FIRM is used to determine flood insurance rates and to help the community with floodplain management.
The City of Fayetteville is applying for a Letter of Map Revision (LOMR) from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to revise FIRM #3720053000J for City of Fayetteville, North Carolina along Cedar Falls Creek. The City of Fayetteville is proposing to revise the FIRM to reflect improvement of the Shawcroft Road culvert.
The City of Fayetteville – Stormwater Services in accordance with National Flood Insurance Program regulation at 44 CFR §65.7(b)(1), hereby gives notice of the City’s intent to revise the 1-percent-annual-chance floodway, generally located upstream from Highway 401. Specifically, the floodway shall be revised from Highway 401 to a point 500 feet upstream from Shawcroft Road. As a result of the LOMR, the regulatory floodway will widen and narrow within the area of revision. The LOMR will also result in increases of the 1-percent-annual-chance water-surface elevations by approximately 2.5 feet and/or decreases by approximately 2.0 feet, and the 1-percent annual-chance-floodplain will widen and narrow within the area of revision.
Maps and a detailed analysis of the flood hazard revision can be reviewed at the City of Fayetteville – Stormwater Services at 433 Hay Street.
