    City receives Excellence in Communications Awards

    The City of Fayetteville was among 19 North Carolina governments to earn recognition in the North Carolina City & County Communicators’ (NC3C) 2021 Excellence in Communications Awards. The City of Fayetteville won first place awards in the Audio, Digital Resource and Social Media categories.

    FAST bus to be donated to FTCC CDL Training Program

    City of Fayetteville leaders will present a City bus to Fayetteville Technical Community College administrators on Tuesday, July 27. The FAST bus will be donated to FTCC for the school’s future Training Program for Class B Commercial Driver’s License for transporting passengers.

    Locks Creek Debris Removal Project completed

    The Fayetteville - Cumberland County Locks Creek Debris Removal Project finished two months ahead of schedule. The project start date was June 6, 2021 and estimated completion date was September 2021. The project was completed ahead of schedule on July 7.

    Crews activate storm plans

    City of Fayetteville crews are preparing for potential responses to Elsa. According to the National Weather Service, the storm will move through Central North Carolina tomorrow. Forecasters say we could see heavy rainfall and there is the potential for damaging winds and an isolated tornado.

    City Hall renovations underway

    First floor renovations are underway inside City Hall. Upgrades to the Front Lobby, Cape Fear Room and Council Chambers should be complete in November 2021. Renovations began after the June 28 City Council regular meeting.

    Every other week recycling delayed; new cart deliveries extended

    The start of every other week recycling is delayed and will begin August 1. Due to material and production issues, new cart deliveries will continue through the end of July. Every other week recycling was originally scheduled to begin July 1.

    Olivera named Budget and Evaluation Office Director

    Kelly Olivera has been tapped to be Fayetteville’s new Budget and Evaluation Director. Olivera began her new role this week after serving as Assistant Director for the last five years. Olivera’s promotion comes as former Director Tracey Broyles plans to retire after 30 years of service to the City.

    City Council Members approve FY22 Budget

    Fayetteville City Council Members approved the Fiscal Year 2022 budget today, June 14, after several weeks of discussion. The balanced budget total is $240.3 million. There is no tax rate increase and no increase in stormwater, transit or solid waste fees.

    Bridge at Sykes Pond Road opens for thru traffic

    The bridge along Sykes Pond Road is now open for thru traffic. The new bridge replaces a section of road that washed away where two corrugated metal pipes failed. Storms destroyed the pipes in September 2016, approximately a week before Hurricane Matthew hit Fayetteville.

    Chris Cauley is the City’s new Economic and Community Development (ECD) Director. Cauley was serving as the Department Acting Director and previously served as Department Assistant Director. Cauley began his new permanent position on May 10.
